Prevention is better the Cure….Before going into details or steps that would help you to remove any spyware or Malware. Few points on how to protect your pc from virus, Spyware or Malware.
Windows Update:
Always try to keep your windows updated; this is the first defense against viruses or Malware, kindly note that not only Microsoft releases a service pack like windows XP SP2 but also small patches that are also important. So visit windows Updates regularly.
Watch your Steps: (Security is a mind-set)
- Avoid Installing Software that you don’t regularly use in autorun at windows Startup mode. You can run them manually when you need them. Some freeware software installs third party apps while installation, So read the license agreement carefully before accepting.Avoid using Internet Explorer instead use Mozilla Firefox with No script Plug-in (noscript.net disable Script globally and allow scripts only for sites you 100% sure are trustworthy)
- Avoid Porn sites, illegal download sites and Software crack/serial sites unless you 100% sure the site you visiting are not notorious.
- Avoid Downloading files for P2P unless you 100% sure the files are virus free. One way is to look for comments from the people who downloaded the files already.
- Don’t click on Popup’s.
- Avoid opening email attachments from Unknown Sources or emails with unusual subject or attachments.
- Avoid opening files that are received by internet messenger with unusual names and messages. Ask the person what it is about before accepting the files to download
- Avoid directly copying files over the network or from other hard disk and from USB drives that are used on other pc’s. Scan the files for virus before opening the files.
Windows User Account:
All user accounts are should be password protected, don’t leave Administrator password as blank. Disable Guest Account. Admin privileges should only be given to administrator account, make rest of the accounts as restricted user (unable to install anything).
Uninstall Microsoft java and install Sun java Latest version:
One Firewall/anti-virus/Spyware removal tool:
It is Important that you run only one Anti-virus and firewall tool. Running multiple Anti-spyware or Malware to clean the system is ok, but Remove applications once your system is clean and use only one Anti-spyware
